Clinical Management of Treatment-Related Gastrointestinal Complications Important in IPF

Posted on

The potential impact nutritional abnormalities may have on clinical outcomes in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) needs to be further studied, according to a study published in the journal Nutrients.

Researchers performed a narrative review on nutritional assessment in IPF from a literature search of published observational and interventional studies between 1995 and 2019.

They determined that nutritional assessment is important not only during the diagnostic process, but also in the follow-up period.

Current clinical treatment for IPF includes Nintedanib and Pirfenidone, which have been linked to adverse events, including diarrhea. Management of the gastrointestinal adverse events induced by these antifibrotic drugs can help make drug treatment more achievable.
